His career took off in 1958 when he wrote and recorded ‘Splish Splash;” this song was an instant hit, selling more than a million copies. In 1959, Bobby Darin recorded “Dream Lover,” a ballad that became a multi-million seller. Propelled by the success of “Mack the Knife” (1959) and “Beyond the Sea” (1960), he broke attendance records at the legendary Copacabana, surpassing Frank Sinatra.
